Hitachi Matches Seagate with 8G, 1", Shock Resistant Drives
September 08, 2005
Following Seagate's launch of 8GB 1-inch drives this summer, Hitachi will roll out tiny drives of the same specification with shock protection, scheduled for delivery in October. The tiny drives feature ESP (Extra Sensory Protection) technology that places the read-write head away from the surface of the disk when detecting a fall of four inches and above. Hitachi's small drives have been used on Apple's iPods. In the future, the tiny drives will be included in digital music players, digital cameras and some digital video cameras.
